Friends - Party at the Peak |
||
| Grouse Mountain in my riding calls itself the Peak of Vancouver. So what could be more appropriate than to throw a party for friends in my riding and call it Party at the Peak. On the last weekend of August, over one hundred of Ralphs friends and acquaintances took the Gondola up to the top, entered the marvelous dining room which Stuart McLaughlin and Scott Ellis of Grouse Mountain Resorts Inc. have created, overlooking Vancouver from an elevation of almost 4,000 feet, and had a party. Here are some of the people who partied the evening away: Pam Duford and friend Marlene Starr of Oregon arrived early and enjoyed the view. Steve and Anita Mair came to look over the scene. Steve is in telecommunications; Anita works as the Executive Assistant to the CFO of a major high tech company. They have two children. Bruce Fuller, legendary cartoonist and developer of Villa dAsola in the Okanagan, with date Chrstina Huston who specializes in image consulting. Mark Reder, President of GPC International, a consulting firm, goes at it with Paul Daynes who is undoubtedly explaining his latest 3P small hydro project. Doug MacKay Dunn, recently announced candidate for Mayor of North Vancouver District, and Scott Ellis of Grouse Mountain Resorts which contributed the venue for the party. Scott boasts that his restaurant at the Peak offers the greatest value in high-end dining on the North Shore, with the most spectacular view thrown in at no charge. Ralph Sultan MLA and friend and neighbour Jan Volker of St. James Society, an organization serving the troubled and homeless of the Downtown East Side. Gordon Adair and Brian Bonney, political hobbyist-chartered accountant-retired CFO on the one hand, and political professional on the other. Flowers and food, courtesy of Grouse Mountain Resorts. Blair Wilson, Federal Liberal candidate in the recent election, and spouse Kelly Wilson, worked the crowd with enthusiasm. Dina Zeitler of Dinas Hair Vogue, Nicole Garton who works as a West Vancouver real estate lawyer when not partying, and Andrew Jones. Retired New Zealand film-maker Kelly Duncan with spouse Meredith Duncan, of Whytecliff Park. Bev and Chuck Walker, of the Bellevue Avenue conglomerate family. Chuck is one who believes the destiny of Ambleside is linked to the sea -- all that it will take is a few hundred truckloads of rock to build a breakwater. Craig Thomas of Thomas, Rondeau law firm dealing in corporate finance, and Lyall Creighton of Dynamic Engineering, formerly head of Atomic Energy International, raconteur of WWII Royal Navy tales. Well-known North Shore hostess Sharon Cant shares thoughts with Steve Mair. Shirley Stocker of CKNW and Crimestoppers, with friends she met on the gondola. Ralph Sultan and Mayor Barbara Sharp of North Vancouver City, who points out the cowbell used to keep track of the wandering Ralph throughout the evening. Donald McInnes of Plutonic Power, an ambitious electrical energy company, and Mike Volker of the Simon Fraser University Angels Network and well known in B.C.s venture capital world. North Shore MLAs Katherine Whittred (North Vancouver-Lonsdale), Ralph Sultan (West Vancouver-Capilano), and Dan Jarvism (North Vancouver-Seymour), take part in an improv skit which challenged both the wit of the participants and the good humour of the audience. Ali Lotfi looks over the spectacular view of downtown Vancouver and English Bay from the Peak of Vancouver. Ralph and two friends he met at the Canadian Legion: Jeannie Betts and Beverly Thompson. Kristi Cave and Trevor Millius. Kristi has forsaken Ralphs office for the world of high finance. Fiancée Trevor is a computer and software entrepreneur.This eclectic mixture of politicians, entrepreneurs, homemakers, and casual acquaintances had a ball. We hope to make The Party at the Peak an annual event. Getting on that gondola is really no different from catching the elevator to go to the top of lets say the Rainbow Room of the RCA Building in New York City. But here at Scotts place the view is better, the people friendlier, and the prices much easier. [top] |
