Air Cadets on Parade
Many years ago, I built a WWII Mosquito Bomber out of balsa wood and tissue paper, hung it by thread from a thumb tack pushed into my bedroom ceiling and, surrounded by identification silhouettes of Spitfires and ME-109’s, fantasized that I had joined my three brothers in the RCAF.

I never forgave Defence Minister Paul Hellyer of Toronto who, on a day of infamy, substituted Texaco green for RCAF blue. Only the Royal Canadian Air Cadets kept cherished traditions alive.

Over 400 air cadet squadrons across Canada continue to keep traditions alive today. Focussing on young men and women age 12 through 19, they teach leadership and discipline, glider or power aircraft flying, physical fitness, marksmanship, and other skills ranging from air traffic control to bagpipes.

When West Vancouver 525 Pathfinder Squadron holds a formal parade, I am glad to accept their invitation to attend. Here are some photographs of the occasion :
