Croquet: A Big Money Game
I must confess that, when invited to a recent croquet tournament , I found other more pressing priorities. Such events conjured up tea and crumpets on the grass, ever so politely.

Staff, however, dictated that I should go. And I discovered that my prediction was dead wrong.

What I found at the Ambleside golf course, temporarily transformed, was a big money game involving highly competitive power players. Not quite the CFL but close to it.

Pictured here are:

Nicole Garton-Jones, Heritage Law Corporation, driving her team to a win, with a luxury cruise ship exiting the First Narrows as a suitable backdrop. When I marveled at how she had won, and asked if they practiced a lot, she said, “No, we bought it!” Naïve little old Ralph. Something to do with mulligans.

Power croquet players include former West Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager; real estate entrepreneur and innovator Steve Hynes; Timea Hynes on far left and Brett Liljefors on far right.  This team did rather well in the final scoring. Stephen’s latest project is “SeyLynn” to be located on the left hand side as one travels west-bound on Highway 1, just before going up “The Cut.” The development will be green, creative, and sensitive to community needs.

Competitor Colleen Thomas, school counselor, and best chum Marion Cragg, convener of the Legal Administrative Assistant program at Capilano College.

A great time was had by all!
